merino wool
Merino wool is packed with features that allow you to (among other things) feel better, look better, pack less, travel more, sweat more, wash less, smell less, worry less, stay outside, have more fun, have a lower environemental impact and ultimately do more and live better.
STNDRD FARE and our fabric partners at Global Merino are committed to producing a natural product with a sustainable supply chain that is socially, ethically and environmentally responsible. All environmental, animal health and workplace practices are of a high standard from farm to finished fabric.
Our partners at Global Merino have established relationships directly with Australian and New Zealand growers and certifying organizations for traceable programs. We select bales of wool with low vegetable matter (VM) and a narrow micron range and are directly in contact with the growers.
We tested dozend of different merino wool fabrics from a variety of merino factories and suppliers. before we found what we were looking for. Our fabric is different. It's 87% merino wool and 13% nylon, constructed with a nylon core wrapped with merino wool fibres. This way we're able to utilize a mulesing free 16.5 micron, 145 gsm merino wool yarn, resulting in an ultra-soft, ultra luxurious fabric that is the lightest, softest, most breathable merino wool on the market today.
While typcial merino fabrics at this weight will have a burst strength that's too low to use, (you"ll typically see these used for underwear and base layers, often resulting in holes and frays in the fabric), our GM RAPT fabric incorporates a nylon core, giving it nearly double the burst strength of 100% merino at this weight, and a durability typically only found in much heavier yarns. This end result is a softer, lighter, more duable shirt.
